Knobology, Probes and Image Acquisition

Overview

In this section we will be introducing the students to important parts of the ultrasound machine especially the essential knobs and dials on the control panel as well as different probes that will be used for different scans and purposes.

After learning about the knobs and probes, students will be taught on how to obtain optimal image to get the sharpest scan images possible in order to come to a diagnosis.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this chapter you should be able to

  • Identify and describe different uses and application of assorted ultrasound transducers
  • Able to describe basic knobs and its uses in ultrasound image acquisition
  • Prepare a patient and machine for ultrasound scan
  • Identify different artefacts and effects encountered during ultrasound scan
