NOR AZMA BINTI RAHLIN

It is with immense pleasure and pride that I present this textbook on International Management, a collaborative effort resulting from the diligent work and intellectual engagement of my students in the course “Issues in International Business.” This book represents a synthesis of our collective exploration into the complex and dynamic world of international management, reflecting both theoretical insights and practical applications essential for navigating the global business landscape.

The textbook is structured into five comprehensive chapters, each focusing on critical aspects of international management:

Chapter 1: Globalization and International Linkages
This opening chapter sets the stage by examining the forces and processes of globalization that shape international business. It explores the intricate web of international linkages that connect markets, economies, and cultures, providing a foundational understanding of how global integration influences business strategies and operations.

Chapter 2: The Political, Legal, and Technological Environment
Building on the globalization framework, this chapter delves into the external environments that impact international business. It discusses the political, legal, and technological contexts within which global businesses operate, highlighting the complexities and challenges that arise from varying regulatory landscapes and technological advancements.

Chapter 3: The Meanings and Dimensions of Culture
Culture plays a pivotal role in international management. This chapter explores the deep-rooted meanings and dimensions of culture, offering insights into how cultural differences influence business practices, management styles, and organizational behavior. It provides essential tools for understanding and navigating cultural diversity in the global marketplace.

Chapter 4: Organizational Cultures and Diversity
This chapter focuses on the internal dynamics of organizations operating internationally. It examines how organizational cultures are shaped and transformed in diverse environments, emphasizing the importance of fostering inclusive and adaptive cultures that leverage diversity as a strategic asset.

Chapter 5: Cross-Cultural Communication and Negotiation
Effective communication and negotiation are crucial for success in international business. The final chapter addresses the nuances of cross-cultural communication and negotiation, providing strategies for overcoming cultural barriers and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes in diverse settings.
